Just wanted to wish everybody out there a Happy Holiday season and a Merry New Year.
Well there hasn't been much to post really. Ronald Jones was a no-show at the Cake-Shop Richard Davies gig, and the long awaited release of his new album "Tonights Music" doesn't seem to be on the market, The Flaming Lips have no tour dates posted and if you want to catch a NYE show you'll need to go visit them in their home town in Oklahoma, Becks been putting up some preview stuff if you are on his MySpace blog, Death Cab for Cutie has been busy, the Paris Gun seem to be stagnant still.
The world of Unsigned and DIY Indie bands has been bleak, CD and track sales have been less than stellar.
One of the worst things to have occurred in 2007 was that the good folks at Weedshare.com pulled the plug on themselves along with the best thing ever for independent artists, and never came back!

CSR Radio goes silent May 8th in protest of new law
Well not silent, really. We'll be airing only Public Service Annoncements for SaveNetRadio.org and re-broadcasting a recent radio interview with John Beezer of Shared Media Licensing (Weedshare.com) all day Tuesday, May 8th.
None of the usual Indie Music will be played from Midnight tonight until Wednesday, May 9th in protest of the unfair and unequal law recently enacted which will put many Indie Webcasters silent or bankrupt!
Exactly one week later the new higher royalty charges were to go into effect retroactively to January 1, 2006! But Artists, Internet Radio Listeners, and Webcasters united to march on Capital Hill May 1st and succeeded in getting that date pushed back to July 15th, 2007.
Now we have very little time to push H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act through the legal system just in time to save Indie Webcasters.

Today is THE LAST day for Weedshare tune purchases
Unfortunately Weedshare.com has decided to suspend operations April 9, 2007. This was in our opinion the most fantastic digital file distribution system EVER and saying we're disappointed to see it go is the understatement of the year.
It was a fantastic solution to the illegal file sharing that hurts the Artist because music consumers actually were PAID financial incentive to LEGALLY share the file and create new sales for the band(s).
Weedshare provided all newbies a FREE $5.00 to purchase their first Weed files with - GRATIS! There was really NO reason for the fan to NOT buy 5 tunes since the bill was covered by Weed. Interested? You have less than 24 hours to visit the "Download" section of our site to take advantage of this for the last time!
Turns out the new Microsoft Operating System Vista, and Windows Media Player 11, have crippled the Weedhare file purchase process. Although a Weed file plays previews fine, and plays tunes already purchased prior just fine, the process of purchasing new Weed files in WMP 11 creates a problem for which there is no cure... It views the meta data Weed needs to add to the track as if it were a "Tampered" file and refuses to play!
With the inevitible migration to the new OS and player, and with Microsofts blatent back-turning on their partners who utilized the "Play For Sure" DRM technology in favor for their own proprietary scheme (first surprise was how the new Zune didn't do Weed) the eminent demise of the best thing for the digital music sales ever had begun.
This comes about at a time that big labels are trying to monopolize and force-feed your ears what THEY want to cram in them. The new RIAA and CRB arm twisting on capital hill have small webcasters faced with a new retroactive fee structure that will be putting many online radio stations into bankruptcy.

Happy "Early Easter" present from Iran
Everything from the stock market to mortgage interest rates were affected by news of the release of the British captives today by Iran touted as being an early "Easter Present".
It's been a couple of years since The Nuclear Labrats, an obscure experimental rock band who write top-rock (topical rock tunes), wrote "Turbin Bomb" but it is as fresh as the day written.
Says J. J. LaBrat, "when we wrote it we thought it was like news at 11:00 and would quickly fade into obscurity" but it turns out to have had years of staying power.
"Nothing about our stuff is for the faint of heart, it's FAR from politically correct" explains J. J. "we don't make the news, we just rock it!" Because of this their true identities are concealed behind rat masks.
In a nutshell the song is anti-nuke and instructs those willing to perform suicide bombings to turn them on themselves instead. It conveys to the listener a feeling of fear throughout regarding Irans continued need for uranium.
I think there is a hint to a conspiracy theory therein in that unrest in the Middle East is benefiting a secret agenda and will not be remedied any time soon.

Flaming Lips NYE Contest - Rose Parade update
As you know the Flaming Lips put on a YouTube event which ended yesterday. A dance contest submission where the winner gets to share space on the stage with the Lips and even two free tickets so you can bring your friend.
The winner was to have received a call yesterday 12/26/2006. Should that winner not be successfully contacted they move on to the next runner up(s) until the connection is made.
As of this writing I've checked both their YouTube address http://YouTube.com/group/flaminglips as well as their official site at http://www.flaminglips.com and no announcement is posted... nor was one expected as the fine print would preface.
However one would expect that the winner would have posted in great excitement their good fortune as this is a much coveted prize. Unless of course Warner Brothers conditioned for a gag order (poor winner, that would be a hard secret to be forced to try and keep! We'll understand if you leak it!).
Some have posted comments such as "... wouldn't it be fantastic if ALL of us got to dance on stage..." and to many that is more than likely what they hope in their hearts of heart might occur!
Knowing Wayne Coyne only from media and the Fearless Freaks DVD alone you'd get the feeling that he would be just that type to do something exactly like that. But again, this contest is solely Warner Brothers last word.
It is assumed that he legaleze stating WB would elect the panel of voters, most expect it will be the 3 band members and ultimately front man Wayne Conye's call.

Wraping up a wild year of touring The NYE (New Years Eve) gig in L.A. immediately follows their San Francisco show the day before, and is followed hours later by the Rose Parade in Pasadena. According to www.flaminglips.com the very next moring Jan 1, 2007, the band will be riding the Oklahoma Centential float.

The 70-foot-long float is pulled by an eight-horse team of black and white Express Clydesdales.
The surrey with a fringe on top at the front is made of rice, strawflower and carnation petals. The headdress features everlasting, black seaweed, pampas grass, chrysanthemums, pinto beans and split peas. The cowboy's boots are adorned with flaxseed, statice and rice, with silverleaf buckles. And the oil well gushes with rice, silverleaf and seaweed.

Yeah Yeah Yeah Song video premier REVIEW
Premier of "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" review
I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd (were you there?) Monday night where they played the world premier of the Lips new video by Traktor. (thank you res.com)
First of all, the interviews you read where Wayne was excited to be working with Lions etc. did not transpire. The only large animal in the shoot I recall seeing was actually some human in a ware wolf costume. I was able to ask the representative from Traktor why the last minute change of plans? He explained to the some 300 attending that their budget of $150,000 was quickly spent other ways not leaving enough to include the live animals.
Still the video turned out to be a gas! Wayne had taken ideas from watching some Japanese television. You begin seeing nearly nude obese boys turned loose in a Romanesque arena (shot in a remote location not far from Magic Mountain Theme Park, per Traktor) to devour some actor who *may* represent Dick, the Vice President. He'd been prepped by three or four prancing under-dressed Asian young ladies who are shown taping cheese burgers all over his body.
Wayne starts out the powerful ruler overseer and Steven Drozd, Michael Ivins, and Kliph Scurlock are all dressed as his guards. I was very happy to see Kliph's inclusion as he's really become the legitimate 4th member in many a mind.
Then another person who *may be Paris Hilton? Britney Spears? is strapped with an abundunce of doughnuts suficient enough to bribe and distract the law - funny stuff! I noticed the audience chuckling and smiling throughout, and rocking when ever that flanger effect guitar chorus kicked in.
It winds up at the end of this video, which was more like a miniature "Hey Hey We're The Monkees" episode, that Wayne is overtaken in some coup and adorned with steak meat and the ware wolf chases him around a bit while the populous chased the rest of the band.
Last scene I recall he was Wayne comfortably sitting next to and feeding the ware wolf by peeling steak off his forehead. Absolutely a must see!!! In addition to being a thoroughly entertaining video the song itself ROCKS!

It winds up at the end of this video, which was more like a miniature "Hey Hey We're The Monkees" episode, that Wayne is overtaken in some coup and adorned with steak meat and the ware wolf chases him around a bit while the populous chased the rest of the band.
Last scene I recall he was Wayne comfortably sitting next to and feeding the ware wolf by peeling steak off his forehead. Absolutely a must see!!! In addition to being a thoroughly entertaining video the song itself ROCKS!
